In need of small changes to feel like you are still a parent? Try these easy methods!
For time in between visits:
- Send an email (36% said they do this)
- Send a hand written letter
- Text your child (it is said up to 60% of communication to parents is through texting)
- Use Skype for a chat (13% say they use this)
Relationships issues:
Empty Nest Syndrome can be mistaken for feelings of alienation towards their partner after so many years apart. In order to prevent this, many couples say a "date night" every Friday while the kids are still home will keep the two bonded.
It is also seen in the opposite light. A poll was taken in 2010 and these are the results:
- Parents felt 10 years younger
- Most had an extra $600 to spend every month making them feel better off
- Expansion of social group
- New hobbies were put to the test
- Improvement in relationships
